From the desk of Lori Aufderhar, Summit’s Director of Operations/Retirement Coach:
Self-care – during the holidays? That’s the last thing on most of our minds as we run our errands, attend concerts, plays, coffee dates, happy hours, and dinners out with friends and families.
Think about making the holiday special for yourself by pressing pause and giving yourself the gift of pampering.
One woman I know makes it a tradition to go to her workout club where she starts her morning with the sauna, does her weights, runs on the treadmill, and swims. Afterwards she enjoys an all-day pampering at the club salon. Her sessions include:
- Haircut and style.
It takes her all day and she feels fabulous afterwards. The spa at her club gives her free coffee, tea, water, or wine throughout her sessions. Plus there’s a café at the club where she grabs lunch at some point between her pampering sessions. Her plan each year is to schedule this right when the shopping, wrapping, cleaning, and baking are done and before the festivities begin.
Another woman has a similar story, only in this case her husband provides her a gift card for the pampering sessions, as she does so much for everyone else all year long. She can use it all at once or wait and use throughout the new year.
Another family I know plans for all the girls to go for pedicures together.
Friends of ours have a couples massage set for New Year’s Eve to wipe away the tension from the old year and start fresh for the new year together.
What about you? Do you plan for self-care during the holidays and throughout the year?
